Connecticut Defenders News Release

NORWICH, CT-This past weekend's fire at the Peachtree Apartments in Norwich has hit close to home for the Defenders. "A tragedy of this magnitude impacts us all," said GM Charlie Dowd. The Defenders will donate a significant portion of ticket sales proceeds for Thursday's game vs. the Trenton Thunder.

"This one truly hits close to home as one of our own is impacted directly," said GM Charlie Dowd. The Defenders' Director of Operations and Head Groundskeeper, Michael Cannistra has been displaced by the blaze.

"We are grateful that Mike and all of the other residents are safe. It is hard to fathom how much their lives have been turned upside down. We are hopeful that we can make an impact for Mike and the other victims," said Dowd.

Starting Monday, April 28 through the end of the game Thursday May 1, Defender fans will have an opportunity to help make a difference as the team will donate all but $2 of every ticket sold for Thursday's game. The proceeds will be donated to the American Red Cross for use in their efforts to assist those people displaced by the Peachtree disaster.

"This is what community is all about: stepping up when people need help. The outpouring of support that we have seen has been overwhelming and we want to do our part," said Dowd.

The Defenders will host the Trenton Thunder, AA affiliate of the New York Yankees for a 3 game series starting Tuesday, April 29 and ending Thursday, May 1. All game times for the series are 6:35 PM with gates opening an hour prior. Thursday's game features a Sam Adams Pint Glass Giveaway for the first 500 adult fans and there will also be a Gallo Wine Tasting event at Dodd Stadium that evening.
