Corpus Christi Hooks News Release

FRISCO, Texas - Designated hitter Ben Harrison made his first home run of the season count. He pounded a 2-0 pitch into the box seats in left with a man on and two out in the seventh to turn a one-run deficit into a 3-2 Frisco victory Saturday night at Dr Pepper Ballpark.

The Hooks carried a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh, thanks to solo home runs from Ole Sheldon in the second and Eli Iorg in the fifth, and a commanding effort by starter Brian Bogusevic. The southpaw was perfect through three innings and took a one-hit shutout into the fifth.

The RoughRiders got to Bogusevic for their first run in the fifth. Singles by Chris Davis and Max Ramirez set the table for Adam Fox, whose single to center with one out plated Davis for a 2-1 score.

Bogusevic faced real trouble in the sixth when he issued walks to Thomas Berkery and Elvis Andrus sandwiched around a double by Craig Gentry. But Bogusevic needed just two pitches to escape the bases-loaded jam. He got John Mayberry to hit into a 5-2-3 double play, then induced Davis to pop up to shortstop Tommy Manzella to end the frame with the Hooks still ahead.

Ryan Thompson (1-1) relieved Bogusevic and retired the first two batters in the seventh on pop ups to short. Fox followed with a lazy single to left, setting the stage for Harrison's heroics.

Possessing their first lead of the evening, the RoughRiders summoned Brian Gordon from the pen. Gordon, who spent most of last season with the Hooks and made one appearance for Corpus Christi earlier this month, was signed by the Rangers as a free agent and placed on the Frisco roster Saturday.

Gordon retired the side in order in the eighth. In the ninth, he issued a one-out walk to Rob Cosby. With two out, Gordon committed a balk that moved Cosby to second. Iorg followed with a line drive to the gap in right-center, but Mayberry ran it down to end the game.

Gordon saved the game for Trey Hodges (3-1), who allowed two runs on four hits over seven innings.

For the second time this season, Bogusevic held an opponent to one run in six innings and did not get a decision. He allowed five hits and a pair of walks while striking out two.

Manzella singled in the sixth to extend his hitting streak to 15 games. That hit gave the Hooks runners at first and third with nobody out, but Hodges retired the next three men to keep his club to within a run.

The series continues with Sunday afternoon's 2:05 start. Bud Norris (2-0) opposes Frisco's Michael Schlact (0-0).
