SAINT JOHN, NB --- The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies defeated the Saint John Sea Dogs by a score of 8-1 at Harbour Station on Tuesday night, taking a 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven third round playoff match-up in the process.

The Huskies' 2008 post-season record is now 11-0, while the Sea Dogs fall to 8-5 as a result of the disappointing home loss.

Hugo Carpentier (3), Yannick Riendeau (2), Alex Emond, Maxime Macenauer, and Pier-Luc Giguere all scored for the visitors on Tuesday, while Alexandre Leduc tallied the lone marker for the hosts.

Travis Fullerton suffered the loss in net for Saint John, while Maxim Gougeon earned the victory between the pipes for the league's top-ranked team.

Rouyn-Noranda opened the scoring at the 3:56 mark of the first period, with Hugo Carpentier netting his 11th goal of the post-season to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

After Yannick Riendeau scored on a short-handed breakaway to make the score 2-0 in favour of the Huskies, the Sea Dogs very nearly got on the scoreboard midway through the opening frame when Francois Gauthier and Payton Liske broke into Rouyn-Noranda's zone by way of some impressive give-and-go passing. Gauthier's close-range snap shot was blocked by Gougeon's shoulder on the tail end of the play however, as the Huskies' two-goal lead remained in tact.

At the 13:23 mark of period number one, a power play goal off the stick of Maxime Macenauer put the visiting squad from western Quebec up by three. Defensemen Sebastien Piche and Marc-Andre Bourdon both picked up assists on Macenauer's man-up marker, which improved the 19-year old centre's '08 post-season goals total to five.

Robert Mayer took over goaltending duties from Travis Fullerton following Rouyn-Noranda's third goal of the evening

With 4:19 remaining in the first, Alexandre Leduc scored his first goal of the playoffs on a play that earned Jeff McNeil his first assist of the playoffs. Leduc deflected McNeil's point shot to the back of the Huskies' net in highly-impressive fashion from the slot, pulling his team to within two of the Telus Division champions' lead as a result.

The second period saw things take a turn for the physical, with no fewer than ten penalties being handing out by officials, including five-minute majors to Alexandre Leduc and Tyler Hawes following a spirited bout of fisticuffs midway through the frame.

Yannick Riendeau and Pier-Luc Giguere scored the only two goals of the second, giving the visitors a commanding 5-1 lead as Tuesday night's contest reached the forty minute mark.

The Huskies continued their strong play into the third period, adding three more goals to their nightly total courtesy of Alex Emond and Hugo Carpentier, who caught Sea Dogs forward Scott Howes for the league lead in playoff goals with 13 by registering a Tuesday night hat trick on the strength of two markers during regulation's final frame.

Much to the chagrin of the 4,740 fans at Harbour Station, Game Three ended with the final score reading HUSKIES 8 - SEA DOGS 1.

These two teams will meet again Wednesday night in Saint John, with the Sea Dogs hoping to turn the proverbial tide with a home victory..
