Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON - Following their first eight-game road trip of the young season, the Charleston RiverDogs return home to the gorgeous confines of Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park for an eight-game set over a nine-day period against two of the better teams in the South Atlantic League (SAL) in the 2007 season.
The Columbus Catfish, the Class-A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and the defending SAL Champions, begin the homestand with a four-game series from April 24-27. An off day follows on April 28 before the Augusta GreenJackets, the Class-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, make their first trip to The Joe in 2008 for four games.
First pitch for each contest is set for 7:05 p.m, except for Sunday, which will start at 4:05 p.m.
April 24 marks another Thirsty Thursday, presented by 95 SX, where $1 food and drink specials are featured all night. It will also be Karaoke Night at The Joe as a karaoke machine will be set in the concourse area, and fans will have the opportunity to sing along with their favorite tunes.
Friday, April 25 is another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday, presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc., and WEZL. The RiverDogs will don special red jerseys for the game against the Catfish, and fans who wear a red shirt to the game can receive $1 off their ticket price at the box office and then have the option to donate that money to aid service families. Members of the Red Hat Society will be in attendance on this evening as well, and fans can enjoy another fireworks spectacular following the game.
The RiverDogs and the South Carolina Highway Patrol will hold a special blood drive at The Joe, beginning at 2 p.m., which benefits families of highway fatalities. Fans who participate in the event by donating blood will receive a free RiverDogs hat and a ticket to a future home game.
Saturday, April 26 marks the RiverDogs' Kite Giveaway to the first 1,000 fans to the park that evening presented by WCIV-TV 4. As part of Win the Boss's Money Night, 30 lucky fans will be randomly selected to fly kites on the field from 6:15-6:30 p.m. and have the chance to win $1,000 cash. The $1,000 will be spread throughout the outfield entirely in $1 bills, and fans will rush from home plate in a free dash for the cash.
Earlier in the day, the RiverDogs will hold a special event at The Joe in the RUN FORREST RUN 5K Race presented by the Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Clear Channel Communications, Pivotal Fitness and Coburg Dairy. The three-mile plus course, which is TAC certified, begins at 5:15 p.m. and ends at home plate with RiverDogs players and coaches congratulating the finishers. Bubba Gump Shrimp Company's very own Forrest Gump will be on hand to start the rain-or-shine race and mingle with runners throughout the evening. There will also be an awards ceremony and a post-race party with dinner provided by Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. Proceeds from the event benefit the MUSC Storm Eye Institute.
Family Sunday activities, presented by the Charleston County Parks & Recreation Center/MUSC Sports Medicine and The Bridge 105.5 FM, encompass the April 27 game against Columbus, which is slated for a 4:05 p.m. first pitch. It also marks the first of two Dog Days this summer at The Joe, where all dogs on a leash get into the park for free. Also, by popular demand, Lowcountry Dog Agility will be back at The Joe once again with their special pre-game on-field demonstration.
Following a rare off day on April 28, the RiverDogs are back in action the following night against the GreenJackets in a BI-LO Two for Tuesday Night presented by BI-LO, B92 and The CW. The evening will also be Cheap Skate Night, which will not only celebrate the penny-pinchers, but also feature roller skating in the Kid's Zone.
Wednesday, April 30 will be another Wild Wednesday presented by Dunkin' Donuts and Z93. The All-U-Can-Eat special in the Ashley View Pub will be at full force once again with its rotating featured items. It will also be Youth Baseball Night, which celebrates the players and teams in uniform with a pre-game parade around the field warning track.
The RiverDogs enter the month of May with one of the most unique promotions they will do all summer. In addition to being another popular Thirsty Thursday on May 1, it will also be May Day! Arrgghh! No Pirate Movies This Summer! Night. The first 500 fans through the gate will receive free eye patches courtesy of the Brass Pointe, and all fans are encouraged to dress up like buccaneers to help celebrate.
The final game of the eight-game homestand will be another Force Protection Red Shirt Friday presented by Force Protection Industries, Inc., and WEZL. It will also be Boy Scouts Night at the park, where in addition to seeing another sky-shattering fireworks show following the game, boy scouts in attendance will be camping out in the outfield.
The Joe will also be featuring the Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest, presented by Principal Financial, outside the park gates from 4-7 p.m. The Principal Financial Group Family Fun Fest, the most extensive minor league baseball festival tour in history, features the Fun Fest Midway and Minor League Baseball Museum with more than 20 midway-style attractions and activities that are set up next to the ballpark, including batting cages, a radar gun pitching challenge, a giant side-by-side super slide and other large inflatables commemorating the history and impact of baseball on the American culture.
The RiverDogs will venture on another eight-game road trip beginning May 3 before returning home May 11 for an off day. Charleston will start an eight-game home series on May 12 with two four-game sets, first against the Greenville Drive, the Class-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, then the Asheville Tourists, the Class-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.
