New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- The Toronto Blue Jays, parent club of the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, today transferred right-handed pitcher Mike MacDonald from the Fisher Cats to Triple-A Syracuse and replaced him on New Hampshire's roster with right-handed pitcher Jamie Vermilyea, who had been at Extended Spring Training.
MacDonald, 26, was 0-2 with a 6.23 ERA in four relief appearances for New Hampshire this season. The Camden, ME native remains tied for the franchise's all-time lead with 16 career victories. As a starting pitcher at Syracuse last season, MacDonald posted a 6-8 record with a 4.88 ERA in 23 games. His career Fisher Cats' numbers are 16-12 with a 3.79 ERA in 37 games between 2006 and 2008.
Vermilyea, 25, pitched the only perfect game in Fisher Cats' history on June 28, 2004 against the New Britain Rock Cats in a seven-inning game at Gill Stadium. He joins left-hander Mike Gallo as the only Fisher Cats with Major League experience after pitching six shutout innings in two outings with the Blue Jays last season. The Tucson, AZ native went 2-2 with one save and a 4.15 ERA for Syracuse in 2007. He returns to New Hampshire for the first time since April 2006, when he went 0-0 with one save and a 1.65 ERA in five appearances. In 52 career Fisher Cats appearances between 2004 and 2006, Vermilyea is 6-5 with seven saves and a 2.45 ERA.
The Fisher Cats visit the Harrisburg Senators tonight at 6:05pm in the second game of a four-game series. Right-hander Jean Machi (0-0, 4.38) takes the mound against former Fisher Cat Ismael Ramirez (0-2, 10.00), who coincidentally is tied with MacDonald and left-hander Gustavo Chacin atop the Fisher Cats all-time wins list. Radio coverage of the game begins at 5:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman.
