Altoona Curve News Release
ALTOONA, PA- People spend their entire lives surrounded by tools, either those helpful instruments that assist in getting the job done or those people that just never seem to go away. That's why the Altoona Curve will host "Salute to Tools Night" TONIGHT as the team takes on the Erie SeaWolves at 6:35 p.m.
A double entendre will be at work as the Curve not only honor everything on your dad's work bench from hammers and nails to screwdrivers and "T" squares, but also will poke fun at famous people who are "tools", described by 'Urban Dictionary' as "someone always trying too hard to fit in, and because of this, never will."
"Being from the south and a big NASCAR fan, one might say I'm a fan of tools," said Curve General Manager Todd Parnell. "NASCAR would never be possible without those gadgets they use in the pits. From caveman to modern day tools, we will have a whole entourage to wow fans with. There are just so many tools in today's society it is going to be hard to narrow it down to the few we can showcase."
Fans will be enlightened with a plethora of tool trivia, for example, in England, the wrench is called a spanner and was patented in 1835 by Solymon Merrick. Everyone will leave Blair County Ballpark knowing a little more about the world of tools than when they arrived!
In addition to apparatus-type tools, the human-type tools will also be featured on Friday. Former Miami Dolphins and current University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban, who this year equated consecutive losses by his Alabama football team to Pearl Harbor and the September 11th Attacks, will be among the evening's honorees.
"Salute to Tools" is just one of a bevy of crazy theme nights that are still to come in the 2008 season, including "Salute to Quitters Night - If You Can't Beat Them, Quit" (June 3), "You Got Caught Night" (June 18), and "Train Wreck Series - Ode to Fallen Stars" (August 6), to name just a few.
Tickets for Friday's game at Blair County Ballpark can be purchased online at www.altoonacurve.com, by calling 877-99-CURVE, or by visiting the Box Office at Blair County Ballpark.
