Dayton, Ohio-Michael McKennon and Justin Reed each collected three hits as part of a 13-hit attack as the Dayton Dragons completed a four game sweep by defeating the Fort Wayne Wizards 8-1 on Thursday night at Fifth Third Field. The win improved the Dragons record to 5-3 on the season and was their first four-game series sweep since May 4-7 of 2007 when they defeated Kane County on four straight nights in Dayton.

McKennon delivered a pair of doubles among his three hits while Reed went 3 for 4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. The 13 base hits was a season high for the Dragons while the eight runs matched their season high.

The Wizards took a 1-0 lead in a strange first inning. Brad Chalk led off with an infield single on a slow roller to third. Drew Cumberland popped up to shortstop but the ball was dropped by Todd Frazier for an error. Lance Zawadzki delivered a bunt single and the bases were loaded with no one out without a ball leaving the infield. After Angel Mercado struck out, Yefri Carvajal delivered a sacrifice fly to left to give Fort Wayne a 1-0 lead.

The Dragons tied the game in the second. Michael McKennon ripped a double to right and went to third when the throw into second by Fort Wayne right fielder Yefri Carvajal sailed past the bag. Denis Phipps followed with a ground out to second to bring in McKennon and tie the game.

Then Dayton exploded for four runs in the third inning to grab the lead. Justin Reed lined a single to center to start the inning and Keltavious Jones was hit by a pitch. Brett Bartles sacrificed the runners to second and third. Reed scored from third on a wild pitch on a swinging third strike to Todd Frazier. Jones advanced to third on the play as Frazier reached first. Brandon Waring followed with a line drive single to center to drive in Jones and move Frazier to second. Michael McKennon then lined a double to right to bring in Frazier and move Waring to third. Waring scored on Denis Phipps' sacrifice fly to make it 5-1.

Dayton added another run in the fourth when Reed lined a single to left, stole second, went to third on Jones' bunt single, and scored on a base hit by Bartles to make it 6-1.

Kevyn Feiner drove in a run in the Dayton seventh inning with a two-out single to bring in Waring from second to make it 7-1. In the eighth, Frazier doubled after a walk to Jones to set up a sacrifice fly by Waring to close out the scoring.

Dayton starting pitcher Luis Montano (1-0) earned the win, allowing three hits and one run (unearned) over five and two-thirds innings with one walk and five strikeouts.

The Dragons travel to Appleton, Wisconsin to begin a six game road trip on Friday night at 7:35 p.m. against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers. The Dragons are expected to activate Matt Klinker from the disabled list to make his first start of the season. Edward Paredes will start for Wisconsin. The Timber Rattlers have struggled with poor weather this week. Games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday were all postponed due to rain or snow. There is more snow in the forecast this weekend in Appleton.

The Dragons next home game is Friday, April 18th against the Clinton Lumber Kings.
