New York-Penn League to Host a Contest to Choose the Future League Logo

(STATE COLLEGE, PA) - The New York-Penn League (NYPL) announced today the league's current logo will "retire" at the completion of the 2008 season. In order to choose the logo which will represent the NYPL in the future, the league is holding a Logo Contest, giving fans in NYPL communities the chance to create history.

"This is a great way for fans within communities throughout the New York-Penn League to get involved in something that will not only affect their local team, but teams throughout the entire league," said Spikes' General Manager Rick Janac.

Fans wishing to participate in the contest are invited to submit their creative renditions to mmccoy@statecollegespikes.com. Along with artwork, contestants should also submit their name, email address, telephone number and age in the email. Designs are due no later than June 1, 2008, and must be submitted in Vector Format using Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand. The winning logo will be voted on at the NYPL General Managers' meeting and selected no later than August 1, 2008.

The Logo Contest winner will receive a prize packet from the NYPL consisting of a lifetime NYPL pass, merchandise, promotional items, opportunity to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at any site in the league, promotion on each team's Web site and much more!

The current 14-member league, which has roots dating back to 1891, has teams in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Vermont, New York, Maryland and Massachusetts. Its ownership even includes former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis of the State College Spikes, movie star Bill Murray of the Hudson Valley Renegades and Hall of Famer Cal Ripken, Jr. of the Aberdeen IronBirds.

The Spikes begin their NYPL schedule June 17 when they travel to Jamestown. The team will return home on June 19 to begin their home schedule at 7:05 p.m. against the Jamestown Jammers (Florida Marlins).
