Marlies Announce Contestants For Million Dollar Shot

March 25, 2008 - American Hockey League (AHL) - Toronto Marlies News Release

The Toronto Marlies and SUBWAY® restaurants have identified five finalists who will now begin their campaign to shoot for $1 million. Fans will select the contestant with the most inspirational reason to shoot for $1 million in a poll on torontomarlies.com.

The winner will have one chance to shoot for $1 million during the second intermission at the Marlies final regular season home game on Sunday, April 13 when they host the Manitoba Moose - AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks - at 4 p.m.

The five contestants are: Mike Warren - The Toronto native's favourite player is Leafs forward Kris Newbury and says he would donate a portion of the million dollars to the Canadian Cancer Foundation. The 51 year-old grandfather, would also use the money for his grandchildren's futures in education and finish paying off his mortgage.

Neil Branco - The 22 year-old wants people to vote for him because he says "nothing is impossible if you take a chance", and states that he's just a "regular guy". Branco, a native of Mississauga, says his favourite player is Maple Leafs captain Mats Sundin and would host a big party if he won the million dollars.

Adrian Prizzon - The 45 year-old's favourite player is Marlies goaltender Justin Pogge and says fans should vote for him on-line because he's a "fun-loving family man who enjoys helping others". Prizzon would make donations to the Sick Kid's Hospital and give money to his family if he won the grand prize.

David Stephan - The Thornhill native says that people should vote for him because he enjoys playing sports and would use the money to help pay off his student loans. Stephan's favourite player on the Toronto Marlies is Justin Pogge.

Peter R. Fenn - The Brampton native would use a portion of the $1 million to ensure his five year-old daughter will have a good education and that his wife will be able to continue working with special needs children. Fenn would host a large party for his family and friends if he won the money.

The promotion involved a search for five fans that entered at the official Toronto Marlies website and torontosun.com over the past four weeks. Fans entered by using promotional codes from reading the Toronto Sun, watching Leafs TV or by attending Marlies home games. The five contestants were then selected through a random draw and will now begin going head-to-head with each other in an on-line fan poll. The winner will be announced live during the Maple Leafs vs. Senators telecast on April 3 on Leafs TV.

The Marlies travel to Syracuse to battle the Crunch - AHL affiliate of the Columbus Blue Jackets - on Wednesday evening with puck

drop scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The Marlies then travel to Cleveland to face-off against the Lake Erie Monsters - AHL affiliate of the Colorado

Avalanche - on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Toronto returns home for games on Saturday against the Manitoba Moose - AHL affiliate of the

Vancouver Canucks - at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday versus the Monsters at 4:00 p.m. For ticket information, including season ticket packages
