
RoughRiders' Wellman Commits to Massachusetts

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- Cedar Rapids RoughRiders forward Casey Wellman has committed to the University of Massachusetts, the RoughRiders announced today
"This is certainly great news. Casey has worked very hard to earn this opportunity," said RoughRiders Coach and General Manager Mark Carlson. "Now he's going to have the chance to play at a quality program."
Wellman, 20, has scored 14 goals and totaled 30 points in 36 games this season. The Brentwood, California, native is tied for second on the team in plus/minus rating (+14). Last season Wellman scored six goals and notched 13 points in 50 games.
The Riders selected Wellman in the fifteenth round of the May, 2006 United States Hockey League Draft with the one hundred thirty-second overall pick. Before joining the Riders Wellman earned Michigan All-State honors while starring for Cranbrook-Kingswood High School.
Wellman will be joined at Massachusetts by Rider teammate David Boehm next season. The Minutemen (10-9-6 overall, 5-8-5 conference) are currently in eighth place in Hockey East.
The RoughRiders (23-13-1, 47 points) are currently in second place in the USHL's East Division. The Riders return to action this weekend with a pair of games against the Tri-City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska. The Riders and Storm will clash at 7:05 Friday night and Saturday night. The Riders next take to the ice at home on Tuesday, February 12 at 7:05 when they battle the Sioux City Musketeers.
Tickets for all remaining RoughRiders regular season home games- including the February 12 game- are now on sale. Tickets are available for purchase in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com. The ticket office is open from noon to 5:00PM on weekdays and from noon through the end of the second period on game days. Ticket prices range from $7 to $17 in advance and from $8 to $18 on game days.
