UNCASVILLE, Conn. (December 18, 2007) - Bulkeley of Hartford has been selected as the Connecticut Sun High School Girls' Basketball Team of the Week after improving to 3-0 with victories of 61-56 over Northwest Catholic on December 11th and 67-50 over Manchester on December 14th.
The 2006 CIAC Class L champions, Bulkeley opened the season with a 55-38 victory over perennial power Windsor on December 7th. Both Windsor and Manchester were ranked in the New Haven Register Girls' Basketball Poll when they were defeated by the Bulldogs - now ranked No. 6 - and Northwest Catholic had been undefeated.
Led by the senior tandem of Richelle Anderson and Sherece Huddlin, Bulkeley is a heavy favorite in the Central Connecticut Conference South, and will be a contender in the state tournament.
Each week during the high school girls' basketball regular season, the Connecticut Sun will select one Team of the Week. That team will receive a commemorative plaque, courtesy of the Connecticut Sun and Barker Specialty.
In its second season, The Team of the Week is one in a series of initiatives undertaken by the Connecticut Sun to highlight local girls' high school basketball, where future WNBA stars are already competing. The Sun also conduct a high school tour, host the CIAC Championship luncheon and recognize the four CIAC Class champions during a ceremony at halftime of a regular season game.
