York Revolution News Release
The York Revolution suffered the worst defeat in franchise history, with a 17-2 drubbing at the hands of the Somerset Patriots in front of 2,800 fans at Sovereign Bank Stadium Wednesday night. The loss drops York's second half record to 24-21. They have lost four straight, six out of seven, and eight of the last 11. Somerset is now 28-18, leading York by 3.5 games in the south division.
After taking a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Somerset erupted for the first of three bat-around innings in the game, scoring five times in the second on five hits. Jason Romano led it off with his fifth homer of the year.
Matt Dryer got York on the board in the bottom of the second, clubbing his 13th homer over the Arch Nemesis in left. It trimmed the margin to 6-1, but that was as close as the Revs would get.
Somerset strung a four-spot in the fourth, with a solo homer from Jay Belcher, and a three-run bomb from Jose Morban. York's defense then imploded in the sixth, committing four errors, as the Patriots scored five more times. Somerset tacked on leadoff solo homers in the eighth and ninth, by Todd Leathers and Teuris Olivares.
York posted its final run on Nate Espy's RBI single in the eighth, scoring Rayner Bautista who led off with a double. Bautista went 2-for-3 to lead the Revolution offense, and walked twice, reaching base four out of five times on the night. He has now hit safely in 39 of the last 42 games.
Eight out of nine Patriots in the batting order had at least one hit, and scored at least one run. Belcher collected four hits in five at-bats.
Brandon Knight (9-5) picked up the win for Somerset, allowing just one run on five hits in six innings. He walked one and fanned seven.
Chris Steinborn (7-13) took the loss for York, allowing 10 earned runs on 10 hits in 3.2 innings of work.
Notes: The four-game home losing streak is a franchise-worst... five errors by York is a franchise-worst, surpassing the total of four committed May 6 at Bridgeport and May 8 at Camden... the 17 runs is the most by a Revs opponent in a single game, two more than Bridgeport's 15 scored on Opening Night... Somerset's 18 hits ties the most by a Revs opponent in a single game, which was set by the Patriots on July 20 in Bridgewater, NJ... Somerset's eight extra-base hits also ties the most by a Revs opponent in one game, previously set by the Road Warriors on August 3... it was the most runs scored by the Pats in a single game this season... York has dropped seven games in the standings since July 29 when they led the division by 3.5 games... the Revs have dropped five games in the division over the last eight games, surrendering a 1.5-game division lead... they have been outscored 30-6 the last two games... York still leads the season series 9-7... the series resumes Thursday night at 7:05, with RHP Bryan Edwards making the start for York (7-6, 6.75), facing Somerset RHP Sam Marsonek (6-8, 5.74).
