Tri-City Storm News Release
KEARNEY - The Tri-City Storm of the United States Hockey League announced today that team management has reached an agreement with Platte River Radio, Inc. to broadcast the team's games on The Breeze 94.5 FM KLIQ during the 2007-08 season.
In agreeing to a one-year partnership, the deal guarantees that The Breeze 94.5 will broadcast all Storm games, both home and away, during the 2007-08 season. The first Storm game on The Breeze will be heard on Friday, Oct. 5 as the Storm plays in Omaha.
The Breeze 94.5, which broadcasts from Hastings, NE, is one of four stations owned by Platte River Radio, Inc. The company also owns and operates Power 99 FM, ESPN Radio 1460 and 1550 AM, and KHAS 1230 AM. The Breeze, whose format includes light adult contemporary music along with high school and college sports broadcasts, will also be the "Official Voice of Tri-City Storm Hockey."
"We have always believed that Tri-City Storm hockey was a great opportunity from the beginning," said Platte River Radio, Inc. general manager, Craig Eckert. "As Platte River Radio, Inc. has grown with the acquisition of more stations including The Breeze KLIQ-FM, KICS AM and KHAS AM, as well as a format change to ESPN Radio on 1460 and 1550 AM, we have the ability to continue our reputation for outstanding high school coverage while adding this strong commitment to Tri-City Storm hockey."
The Breeze is just the second radio partner for the Storm in the team's seven-year history.
"We are extremely excited about the new partnership between Storm Hockey and The Breeze 94.5," said Greg Shea, the Storm's vice president of operations. "With Platte River Radio's experience in sports broadcasting along with their tremendous coverage area, this guarantees that Storm hockey games will be presented to our fan base in a way that is beneficial to Storm fans, business partners and both of our organizations."
Storm radio broadcaster John Meissner will remain the voice of the Storm for his second season behind the microphone. Meissner is a veteran of sports play-by-play as he enters his 27th season. The Breeze 94.5 FM game broadcast will begin at 6:45 p.m. and includes a 20-minute pre-game show, live coverage of the hockey game, intermission updates and a post-game show featuring comments from coaches and players. All game broadcasts are also available via the Storm's website at www.stormhockey.com.
