Ryan, Milam, Atherton Ink Deals With Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH - The Manchester Monarchs, the primary affiliate of the Los Angeles Kings, have agreed on one-year contracts with center Matt Ryan and defensemen Troy Milam and P.J. Atherton, Monarchs Director of Hockey Operations Hubie McDonough announced today.

Ryan, 23, has played in 201 games with the Monarchs over the last three seasons compiling 72 points (29-43=72) and 188 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 182-pound native of Sharon, Ontario, finished the 2007 Calder Cup playoffs tied for fifth on the Monarchs squad with eight points (3-5=8) in 16 games. Ryan made his NHL debut with the Kings against the San Jose Sharks on January 24, 2006. He played in 12 games with the Kings during the 2005-06 season and recorded one assist and two penalty minutes.

Milam, 27, played in 49 games with the Monarchs during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons. The 6-foot, 185-pound native of Orion, Michigan, tallied 15 points (3-12=15) and 34 penalty minutes while in Manchester. Milam split the 2006-07 season between the Chicago Wolves and Hershey Bears collecting 34 points (5-29=34) and 28 penalty minutes in 48 games between the two teams. In 112 career AHL games with the Monarchs, Wolves, Bears and San Antonio Rampage from 2003-07, Milam has 51 points (8-43=51) and 74 penalty minutes.

Atherton, 24, spent a majority of the 2006-07 season with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL tallying 29 points (5-24=29) and 50 penalty minutes in 57 games. Over the last two seasons, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound native of Edina, Minnesota, played in 16 games with the Springfield Falcons registering six points (2-4=6) and six penalty minutes. Atherton was originally selected by the Tampa Lightning in the sixth round (170th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
