Tri-City Americans News Release

KENNEWICK, WA - Today, Tri-City Americans general manager Bob Tory announced that 20-year-old forward Tanner Gillies has retired from the hockey club.

The 6'3", 210-pound center from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan appeared in 70 games for the Americans last season, collecting six goals and 24 points. In his third season in the WHL, Gillies managed to set career-best marks for assists (18) and points (24) in a season, while helping Tri-City to their best record in franchise history.

"We would like to thank Tanner for the year he spent with our club. He was a valuable member of our team," stated Tory. "He is a classy young man and ‘the Duke' was a great teammate."

Originally selected by the Moose Jaw Warriors in the second-round (40th overall) of the 2002 WHL Bantam Draft, Gillies was later traded to the Red Deer Rebels, where he played in 126 games and recorded 11 goals and 20 points throughout the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. Gillies will now turn his attention towards his education, as he has already enrolled at the University of Regina for the upcoming fall semester.

"Tanner has made a very responsible and mature decision in regards to his education and future plans for a business career," continued Tory. "We wish him all the best in his scholastic endeavors and will miss his contagious smile."
