New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
RICKY ROMERO THROWS COMPLETE-GAME IN 3-0 LOSS TO ROCK CATS
David Winfree homers, drives in 2 to help New Britain snap six-game losing streak
Manchester, NH- Ricky Romero pitched the second complete game of his professional career, but Josh Hill and Tim Lahey combined on a six-hit shutout as the New Britain Rock Cats topped the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 3-0, in the opening game of a day-night doubleheader at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. Game two is scheduled for 7:05pm.
David Winfree went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the fourth inning and a solo home run in the seventh for New Britain (48-53), which snapped a six-game losing streak.
Garrett Guzman drove in the Rock Cats' first run with the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, a fourth-inning double that scored Trevor Plouffe (walk) all the way from first base.
Romero (0-5) allowed three hits on six hits in seven innings. He struck out two and walked two.
Hill (2-0) scattered five hits over the first five innings to pick up the win, striking out four and walking one. In two starts at Merchantsauto.com Stadium, Hill has pitched 10 scoreless innings.
Lahey recorded his eighth save in nine opportunities with two shutout innings of relief.
New Hampshire (54-51) threatened in the bottom of the seventh inning when Dustin Majewski ended an 0-for-24 skid with a two-out double and Manny Mayorson (2-for-3, BB) walked. But Lahey induced a game-ending grounder from Ryan Patterson (1-for-4) to hand the Fisher Cats only their third shutout loss of the season.
Right-hander Yusaki Iriki (1-3, 5.88) attempts to win his second consecutive decision tonight at 7:05pm when he pitches for the Fisher Cats against Rock Cats' right-hander Angel Garcia (0-0, 3.60). Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm with Bob Lipman and Mike Murphy on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter).
Tonight's game will be followed by an Atlas Fireworks Show. Tickets are available in person at Merchantsauto.com Stadium or by calling (603) 641-2005.
