
Renault Complete Game Shutout Leads Jackhammers

JOLIET, IL-Joliet JackHammers stating pitcher Nick Renault (4-1) pitched a complete game, five hit shutout to beat the Kansas City T-Bones 6-0 before 4,227 fans at Silver Cross Field on Tuesday night.
The JackHammers scored two runs in the first inning against Kansas City starting pitcher Larkin Braxton (1-3). Cory Harris (3-5) hit a two-out single and advanced to second base on a single by Juan Diaz. (2-5) Derek Nicholson's (1-3) walk loaded the bases.
Chad Ehrnsberger's (2-5) hit an RBI single to score Harris and give the JackHammers a 1-0 lead. The bases remained loaded for Tim Hutting (1-3), who worked a walk to score Diaz and give Joliet a 2-0 lead.
The JackHammers scored two more runs in the second inning. Eric Scriven (1-4) led off the inning with a single and advanced to second base when Anthony Monegan (0-4) laid down a sacrifice bunt. Chris Brown (1-4) hit a single to move Scriven to third base. Harris hit a two-run double to give Joliet a 4-0 lead.
Joliet increased its lead to 5-0 with a single run in the third inning. Hutting hit a one-out single and advanced to second base when Dennis Blackmon (0-2) worked a walk. Monegan reached base on an error by T-Bones shortstop Donaldo Mendez.
The JackHammers rounded out the scoring with an RBI single by Ehrnsberger in the sixth inning to score Harris and make it 6-0.
Renault allowed five hits, two walks and struck out seven T-Bones for the longest outing by a JackHammers starting pitcher in 2007.
Loose Gravel: Renault's complete game was the first of the 2007 season for the JackHammers. Matt Smith did pitch seven and two-thirds innings for the JackHammers on June 8 against the Gary SouthShore RailCats for the second-longest outing by a starting pitcher in 2007. Smith finished one-third of an inning away from a complete game that night.
