Arkansas Travelers News Release

Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, AR - RHP Amalio Diaz has been named the Texas League co-Pitcher of the Week along with Corpus Christi RHP Chance Douglass. On Wednesday, May 30, the two pitchers battled through nine innings of shutout ball at Whataburger Field with the Hooks eventually winning 1-0 in 11 innings. Although not credited with a complete game or a shutout, Diaz is the first Travs pitcher to throw nine scoreless innings during a 2007 ballgame. Throwing 94 pitches, Diaz recorded 19 outs on ground balls including two double plays and did not strike out a batter.

A native of Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, the 20-year old Diaz joined the Travs on May 23 after recording no decisions and a 6.27 ERA in nine appearances at single-A Rancho Cucamonga. He lost his double-A debut to the Hooks on May 24 when he allowed two runs in the first inning before finishing six innings without giving up another run.

Diaz is set to make his third start when the Travs open a four-game series in North Little Rock against the Wichita Wranglers Tuesday at 7:10 p.m.
