Greenville Drive News Release
Lexington, KY - The stage was all set for the Drive to take the fourth and final game of the series with the Legends. Leading 7-2 through four and a half innings it looked as if Greenville would begin their Northern Division road trip with a series split.
However the Legends (21-25) chipped away at the lead, scoring three runs apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to leave the Drive (19-27) stunned. Unfortunately, Greenville was unable to rebound and fell 10-7.
Making his third start of the season, Ryan Phillips was on cruise control through the first four innings. However, the southpaw was victimized by Christopher Johnson, who belted a three-run homer.
An inning later the Lexington rally continued as the Legends added three more runs off of reliever Kyle Fernandes (2-1) to take their first lead of the game. Cesar Quintero and Nicholas Moresi each collected an RBI, and Quintero later scored on a passed ball.
Offensively, the Drive got off to a fiery start, collecting 11 of their 15 hits and scoring runs in four of the first five innings of the ballgame. In the first Greenville was able to score two runs thanks to a Lexington error. An inning later the Drive extended their lead to 5-1 with RBI-singles off the bats of Kristopher Negron and Lars Anderson.
Despite the loss, the eight of the nine batters in the Drive lineup accounted for at least one hit, while five batters recorded a multi-hit game. After totaling just one hit apiece in the first three games of the series, Anderson and Jon Still each finished with three hits in Thursday's game.
The Drive continue their Northern Division swing tomorrow evening in Charleston, West Virginia when they begin a four-game series with the Power. Right-hander Chris Jones will take the mound for the Drive in search of his third victory of the season.
The Drive return home on Tuesday, May 29th. First pitch versus the Hickory Crawdads is set for 7:05 PM when the Drive begin their third eight-game home stand of the 2007 campaign. Tickets to all Drive home games can be purchased by visiting www.GreenvilleDrive.com, or by calling (864) 240-4500.
NOTES: 3B Manny Arambarris, LF Reid Engel, and C Luis Exposito each chipped in with two hits apiece...Thursday's loss was just the third loss for the Drive in 15 games when they led after five innings of play
