Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
Four Lake County pitchers combined for a six-hitter as the Captains shut out the Delmarva Shorebirds 4-0 to salvage the final game of a four-game set at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
Starter Hector Rondon went five innings, allowing only four hits and striking out four and walking no one. He gout out of trouble in the first frame as the first two Shorebirds batters, Bobby Andrews and Danny Figueroa reached base. After Brandon Snyder grounded into a fielder's choice that retired Figueroa at second base, Rondon struck out Billy Rowell and induced a fly out to right from Brandon Tripp to end the threat. Three Captains relievers went the rest of the way, combining to give up only two hits in four innings.
The Captains broke the scoreless deadlock in the fourth inning off of Shorebirds starter Josh Tamba. Tamba was perfect through the first three innings, but walked Jason Denham and gave up singles to Adam Davis and Jared Goedert to load the bases. Cleanup hitter Cirilo Cumberbatch hit a sharp single to left-center to score Denham and Davis for a 2-0 lead. Two batters later, Carlos Rivero hit an RBI groundout to third that scored Goedert for a three-run lead.
The Captains snapped a four-game losing streak while ending the Shorebirds three-game win streak. Delmarva was looking to match its longest of the season, as the Shorebirds won four straight games from April 19-22. The last two wins in that stretch came against the Captains, who also avoided a sweep when they won an extra-inning game on April 23 at Perdue Stadium. Delmarva went five and three on the homestand and head for Hagerstown on Friday.
