Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums have announced the signing of former Mariners prospects C/1B Curtis Ledbetter. Ledbetter is a native of Lawrence, Kansas, and was selected in the 39th round by the Cleveland Indians in the 2000 MLB draft. However, he decided not to sign with the Indians and went on to play one year at Garden City Community College before being signed by the Nebraska Cornhuskers. While at Nebraska, Ledbetter was a two-time First-Team All-Big 12 Conference selection and was an 18th round draft pick of the Seattle Mariners as a red-shirt Senior in 2005. That season Ledbetter helped the Cornhuskers to a 57-14 record and a 5th place finish in the College World Series while batting .319 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs, and 55 RBI.
After being drafted by Seattle, the 6'3" 220-pound Ledbetter cruised through his first assignment playing for the Mariners' Gulf Coast League team, hitting .311 with 9 doubles, 4 home runs, and 22 RBI in only 122 at-bats. In 2006, Ledbetter was assigned to the Wisconsin Rattlers of the Midwest League, where he hit .247 with 6 doubles, 3 triples, and 4 home runs in just 174 at-bats. In the month of August, Ledbetter's bat heated up and he hit .321 with 3 home runs in his final 18 games.
Ledbetter is projected to be an everyday force in the Beach Bums lineup while splitting time at catcher, first base, and designated hitter.
