Somerset Patriots News Release

Bridgewater, NJ - The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have announced that 14 former Patriots are currently attending Spring Training with Major League organizations.

Eight players from the 2006 Patriots team are reporting to Spring Training, including Larry Barnes (Los Angeles Dodgers), Kane Davis (Philadelphia Phillies), Fernando Lunar (Atlanta Braves), Tommy Rojas (Washington Nationals), Jared Sandberg (Texas Rangers), Jason Shiell (Kansas City Royals), Jeff Urban (San Francisco Giants), and Justin Wechsler (Chicago White Sox).

Patriots from previous years with Major League organizations include Robinson Cancel (New York Mets), Joe Gannon (Chicago White Sox), Brad King (Minnesota Twins), Jeremy Owens (Tampa Bay Devil Rays), Brandon Puffer (Pittsburgh Pirates), and Joe Winkelsas (Atlanta Braves).

Of the former Patriots players, two were in the Major Leagues during the 2006 season. Shiell was signed from Somerset and ended up pitching in four games for the Atlanta Braves in July and August.

Winkelsas, who pitched briefly for the Patriots in 2004, pitched in seven games for the Milwaukee Brewers during May and June of 2006.

"We obviously want to see all of our guys do well for these clubs. Our goal on the baseball side has always been to provide players with the chance to make it to the Major Leagues. Every time that happens, it validates the Atlantic League as a road to the Majors," said Patrick McVerry, President and General Manager of the Somerset Patriots Baseball Club.

The Three-Time Atlantic League Champion Somerset Patriots have placed Season Tickets and Group Tickets on sale for the upcoming 2007 season. For more information on how to be part of the 2007 season, call (908) 252-0700 or visit the website at www.somersetpatriots.com.
