Fish roster grows with signing of Priddy and Thomson
January 29, 2007 - Northern League (NL)
Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release
As the time between now and training camp gets shorter, Winnipeg's roster continues to get longer.
Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of infielder Ryan Priddy and pitcher Jordan Thomson. Both are new to the Northern League after spending 2006 in other independent leagues.
Priddy, 23, was acquired earlier this month in the deal that sent Aaron Mendoza to Lincoln. He batted .268 in his first year as a pro, including a .279 clip with the Saltdogs after coming over in a trade with Pensacola.
"I've heard Ryan is a pretty talented player and I've got a lot of good reports from managers in the American Association," said Forney. "You need rookies that can come in and contribute on a daily basis and I believe he's one of those guys that can do that for us."
Thomson, 25, has spent his two years as a closer, leading both teams he has pitched for in saves. Hailing from Gananoque, Ontario and a graduate of NCAA Div. I Northeastern, he played last year for Traverse City of the Frontier League following a season in the Giants system.
"Jordan had a pretty decent college career and he's had some success finishing some games as a pro," Forney said. "I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do in our bullpen."
Winnipeg now has 13 players on its 2007 roster, eight of whom are pitchers.
