November 15, 2006 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Cedar Rapids RoughRiders News Release

Cedar Rapids, Iowa- 2004 American Idol contestant George Huff will perform after the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders' game against the Ohio Junior Blue Jackets this Friday. Huff's performance is just the start of a fun-filled weekend at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena that will see the RoughRiders play two home games (both against Ohio) on the same weekend for the first time this season. Both of this weekend's games start at 7:05PM.

Saturday evening will be packed with fun both on and off the ice. The Riders will wear special edition Iowa Hawkeye/RoughRider jerseys during Saturday night's contest, a game presented by Mediacom. The black-and-gold jerseys, which feature both the Hawkeye and RoughRider logos, will be auctioned off immediately following the game to benefit the Children's Miracle Network.

Previous Rider jersey auctions have raised better than $25,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. Minimum bids for Saturday's auction start at $125.

Great White's Mark Kendall will sing the Star Spangled Banner before Saturday night's game. A guitar autographed by Kendall will be auctioned off after the game to benefit Big Brothers and Big Sisters of East Central Iowa.

Kendall will be in concert at 3rd Street Live following the RoughRiders game. Fans can get $5 off entry to that show with their RoughRiders' ticket stub. More information on the concert can be found on-line at www.3streetlive.net.

Great White have sold over six million records world wide since 1981. Their 1989 release ...Twice Shy went double platinum and included perhaps the band's best known song, the Grammy-nominated Once Bitten, Twice Shy.

The first 1,500 fans through the gates Saturday night will receive free RoughRiders 2006-07 schedule posters courtesy of Union Station and Next Door Music and Provisions.

In addition to all this, Saturday evening is also Hockey 101 Night. Fans can submit their questions about the sport at the merchandise stand on the ice arena concourse during the game. Then, during the second intermission, one of the game officials will hit the ice to answer those questions. Also, throughout the game referee Adam Fish will announce all penalty calls over the arena public address system.

The big weekend begins when the Riders join media sponsor 89.1 The Spirit in welcoming Huff Friday night. Huff's concert will immediately follow Friday evening's game.

Huff finished fifth in the 2004 American Idol contest and shortly thereafter agreed to a recording contract with Word Records. His first studio album, Miracles, capitalizes on Huff's passion for the R&B and gospel music genres.

The RoughRiders (7-4-0, 14 points) head into the weekend in second place in the United States Hockey League's East Division, two points behind the division-leading Waterloo Black Hawks.

Tickets for all remaining RoughRider regular season home games- including this weekend's- are now on sale. Tickets are available for purchase in person at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena ticket office, over the phone at (319) 261-4625 or on line at www.roughridershockey.com.
