Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI, January 24, 2006: The Traverse City Beach Bums announced today that they have added one of the two coaches the team will be hiring to their staff.

Joining manager Jeff Isom in guiding the team during its inaugural season is defensive coach Jon Cahill (CAY-hill).

Cahill comes in with an impressive resume both on and off the field. Signed by the Anaheim Angels in 2001 as an undrafted free agent, he made it as high as AA ball with the Arkansas Travelers of the Texas League in 2003 before signing with Washington. For the Wild Things, Cahill hit .281 over two seasons and has a .964 fielding percentage while playing 181 out of a possible 184 games at shortstop. During the 2003 season, Cahill also tied for the league lead in sacrifice bunts with 11.

After passing the Frontier league age limit of 27 before the 2005 season, Cahill joined the league's coaching ranks with the Ohio Valley Redcoats. There, he won the 2005 Frontier league Coach of the Year award for helping League Manager of the Year, Mark Mason guide the Redcoats to a 46-49 record on the season despite playing 72 of their 95 games on the road and splitting their 21 "home" games between three cities.

"Jon is an outstanding guy who was a strong, fundamental player and who has proven he teach the fundamentals as well based on his work at Ohio Valley last season." Said Beach Bums manager, Jeff Isom, "He's going to be an outstanding addition to the coaching staff."

The Traverse City Beach Bums will kick off their inaugural season on May 24, 2006 with a game against the defending Frontier League champions, the Kalamazoo Kings.
