Akron, OH -- The Akron Aeros and the Cleveland Indians today announced the 2006 Akron Aeros coaching staff. TIM BOGAR will be the Manager, SCOTT RADINSKY will serve as Pitching Coach and FELIX FERMIN has been named as the Aeros Coach. Athletic Trainer JEFF DESJARDINS and Strength & Conditioning Coach BRENDON HUTTMANN return from the '05 staff.In 2006, TIM BOGAR will enter his third season as a Minor League Manager, his first in the Indians farm system. Last season, he led the Lexington Legends (Houston Astros, South Atlantic League) to an 81-58 (.583) overall record and was named to the post-season All-Star squad as the top manager in the S.A.L. In his first season as a manager in 2004, he led the Greeneville Astros (Appalachian League) during their inaugural season to a 41-26 (.612) regular-season record and to the Appalachian League title. Bogar, 39, was originally drafted by the New York Mets in the eighth round of the June, 1987 draft out of Eastern Illinois University. He spent nine seasons in the Major Leagues, including four with the Mets (1993-96), four with the Houston Astros (1997-2000) and one with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2001). In 701 Major League games, he hit .228 (345-1516) with 180 R, 69 2B, 9 3B, 24 HR, 161 RBI & 13 SB.
Pitching Coach SCOTT RADINSKY will be entering his second season as a Pitching Coach in the Indians farm system. Radinksy, 37, spent the 2005 season as the Pitching Coach at Class A Lake County (South Atlantic League). He originally joined the Indians organization as a guest instructor in 2004 and later served as Pitching Coach during the Florida Instructional League. Originally a third-round draft choice of the Chicago White Sox in the June, 1986 draft, Radinsky played professionally for 15 seasons, including 11 at the Major League level with the Chicago White Sox (1990-93, '95), Los Angeles Dodgers (1996-98), St. Louis Cardinals (1999-2000) and Cleveland Indians (2001). In fact, he appeared in 23 games for the Akron Aeros in 2001 after coming off "Tommy John" surgery. In 557 Major League appearances, he was 42-25 with a 3.44 ERA and 52 saves.
Aeros Coach FELIX FERMIN will be entering his first season in Akron and his ninth overall in the Indians farm system. In 2005, he was the Hitting Coach on Manager Marty Brown's staff at Triple A Buffalo (International League). Prior to returning to the bench, Fermin, 42, spent one season (2004) as the Indians Dominican Scout supervisor. Fermin also spent six seasons as the Indians manager for their Dominican Summer League team and was named Manager of the Year in 2002 as he guided his squad to a league-best 49-19 (.721) record. During his six seasons as a manager in the Tribe's farm system, he had an overall record of 258-154 (.626). Fermin played 10 seasons in the Major Leagues, including five with the Cleveland Indians (1989-1993). He also played for the Pittsburgh Pirates (1987-88), Seattle Mariners (1994-95) and the Chicago Cubs (1996). In 903 Major League games, he owns a career batting average of .259 (718-2767) with 294 R, 86 2B, 11 3B, 4 HR, 207 RBI and 27 SB. He struck out just 147 times in 2767 at-bats.
