Bring on the Brigade

November 21, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
Kansas City Brigade News Release

It's official. Less than seven weeks after getting an Arena Football League Team to Kansas City, followed by a month-long contest for fans to "Name the Team", the K.C. franchise has a name. The Brigade.

The Brigade enter the AFL and kics off their inaugural season on Sunday, January 29, 2006, at 2:00pm (CT) vs. the Dallas Desperados. The team colors are Carolina Blue, Silver, and Black. The logo represents a stealth bomber flying overhead, symbolizing the AFL's on-field theme: high octane, fast and powerful offense.

"The response we got from the fans in the Kansas City area has been incredible," team owner and managing partner Tyler Prochnow said. "The fans have really taken an ownership interest in this team. We received thousands of unique suggestions for the name of the team. Even with all of the variety, it was clear the most important thing from the fans perspective was that the name reflect Kansas City and what the town means to all of us."

The winner of the ‘Name the Team Contest' will be drawn at the press conference, but some other suggestions that made the list of finalists were: Brush Creekers, Express, Strike, and Bombers.

The uniform design and mascot will be announced at a later date. The first home game for the Kansas City Brigade at Kemper Arena is Sunday, February 12, at 1:00pm (CT) vs. the Austin Wranglers.
