San Jose Giants News Release
San Francisco Giants closer Armando Benitez will make his second rehab start for the San Jose Giants on Thursday afternoon at Municipal Stadium. First pitch of the series finale with the Lake Elsinore Storm is scheduled for 12:45 P.M.
Benitez started on the mound for San Jose last Monday and fired a scoreless top of the first inning against the Bakersfield Blaze. It was Benitez's first live game action since suffering a torn hamstring while pitching for San Francisco on April 26th. On Monday, Benitez faced three batters inducing a ground out, followed by a walk, and then a double play to end the inning. The two-time All-Star threw 14 pitches - ten for strikes.
Benitez is expected to throw one inning for San Jose on Thursday.
The 32-year old right-hander has 248 career saves - ninth among active closers and 24th all-time. In eight games with San Francisco this season, Benitez has a 1-1 record with a 5.79 ERA and four saves.
Tickets are available for Thursday's contest at Municipal Stadium and can be purchased by calling the Giants box office at (408)297-1435 or visiting www.sjgiants.com.
