Evansville Otters News Release
The Evansville Otters welcomed back a key member of the 2003 pitching staff today when the team announced it had signed Ryan Burnau for the 2005 season.
Burnau had been signed by the Marlins organization after a stellar 2003 campaign in which he went 3-1 with an ERA of 3.07. In 41 innings for the ballclub, Burnau walked just 10 while striking out 50. He, along with A. J. Ampi and Amad Stephens gave Evansville the most feared bullpen in the league. Opponents hit just .237 off Burnau in 2003.
"We're very excited to have Ryan back." Said Otters Director of Baseball Operations, Jeff Pohl. "Ryan has an extremely strong work ethic and is very professional in everything he does. He's going to be a good late-inning stopper and has a very strong desire to help the Otters win a championship."
A native of Markle, IN Burnau, still just 23, has spent the past five seasons in professional baseball. From 2000-2002 he played in the Cubs organization where he split time as a starter and a reliever. After switching to relief full-time in 2002, his numbers improved dramatically with his ERA dropping from 5.09 in '00 and '01 to 3.01 in '02 with Boise and '03 with the Otters.
The Evansville Otters open up their season on May 25th with a three game series at Chillicothe. The squad then returns to Bosse Field for the home opener on Saturday, May 28th when the Otters will take on the Ohio Valley Redcoats at 7 p.m. The team is expecting to crown the one millionth fan in team history on opening night. Season tickets are on sale now and individual game tickets will go on sale Saturday, April 9th at 9 a.m. during Otters FanFest presented by Prudential Prime Location Realtors.
