WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Sacramento River Cats first baseman Dan Johnson today was recognized with the George M. Trautman Award, given annually by the Topps Company of New York and Minor League Baseball to the Player of the Year in the Pacific Coast League. Additionally, Johnson and catcher Mike Rose were named to the 12-man Topps/Minor League Baseball Triple-A All-Star Team.

Johnson, 25, batted .299 (160-for-535) with 29 HR and 111 RBI in 142 games with the River Cats this season en route to being named the Pacific Coast League Most Valuable Player and a member of the All-PCL Team. He finished second in the league in runs batted in (111) and bases on balls (89), fourth in hits (160), seventh in extra-base hits (63) and eighth in runs scored (95). He had a .403 on-base percentage, ninth-best in the PCL. Johnson was selected by the A's following the River Cats' championship run, but he did not appear in any games due to vertigo.

Selected by the A's in the seventh round of the 2001 Draft out of the University of Nebraska, Johnson is a native of Coon Rapids, Minn. The 2004 season was his fourth in professional baseball.

"Both Dan [Johnson] and Mike [Rose] were great during the 2004 season, and they deserve all of the accolades they have received," River Cats Senior VP & General Manager Gary Arthur said. "We have had some outstanding players and teams. In five seasons, we've had three PCL Most Valuable Players and have won two PCL Championships. Both Dan and Mike were key members of the 2004 PCL Championship club. They were leaders both on and off the field."

Rose, 28, batted .281 (98-for-349) with 6 HR and 49 RBI in 107 games for the River Cats. Also a member of the 2004 All-PCL Team, he finished tied for fourth in the league with 76 BB and tied for fifth with a .407 on-base percentage. Rose was selected by the A's on Sept. 14 and went 0-for-2 with 1 R in two games with Oakland.

A native of Sacramento, Rose was signed by the A's as a free agent in November 2002. He was originally selected by the Houston Astros in the fifth round of the 1995 Draft and has played with five different organizations during his 10-year professional career.

The River Cats will begin their 2005 season on April 7, when they host the Portland Beavers at Raley Field. Season and group tickets for the upcoming season are available now by calling 916-371-HITS. Fans interested in being placed on the priority seating list for Fun Packs (partial season tickets) can do so immediately by calling 916-371-HITS.
