Frisco RoughRiders News Release

Bethel, CT – AT THE YARD is proud to announce that Ian Kinsler of the Texas Rangers organization has been awarded the first annual Diamond in the Rough Award. The award, presented to Kinsler prior to the RoughRiders' September 4 game against Arkansas, recognizes a minor league player who rises from obscurity and plays himself to prospect status during his breakout season. The AT THE YARD Diamond in the Rough Award is annually awarded to the outstanding, unfounded player who emanates the potential for major league success and defies the odds in pursuit of his dream.

"It is definitely an honor and I am very excited about the award," said Kinsler on receiving the AT THE YARD Diamond in the Rough Award. "Hopefully there will be a lot of great players to follow."

Originally a 17th round selection of the Texas Rangers in 2003, Kinsler began this season hitting .402 with 30 doubles and 11 home runs, while driving in 52 runs in 59 games for the Clinton LumberKings of the Single-A Midwest League. Injuries within the Rangers' organization precipitated a June 13 call-up to Double-A Frisco of the Texas League for the product of the University of Missouri. The shortstop proceeded to hit .300 with 21 doubles, nine home runs and 46 RBIs in 71 games, finishing the season with Frisco, who is currently in the Texas League playoffs.

"It was a matter of time before I put things together and this year has been a little bit of a surprise," added Kinsler. "The way I have played this year has made the season a lot of fun. It is fun to come to the ballpark every day when you are playing good baseball."
