Wilmington Blue Rocks News Release
WILMINGTON, DE â The Wilmington Blue Rocks announced that they will once again team with John "Johnny Mac" McAdams for the sixth annual Johnny Mac School Supply Drive in 2004. All proceeds will benefit students in first through fifth grade in New Castle County (Del.) elementary schools.
"We want to make sure that the playing field is level," McAdams said. "We want to ensure that every kid gets the chance to start the year with the supplies he or she needs."
McAdams and the Blue Rocks are asking for similar donations this year. Fans are asked to bring all supplies or checks to the Blue Rocks front office at Frawley Stadium from Monday through Friday between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. On game nights, please bring them to the Press Box or to the Payroll Management Customer Service Center on the main concourse. Tables will be set up in front of the stadium and on the main concourse on Friday, August 13 for collection. Those unable to attend that night may bring donations to the stadium through August 26.
"We need the support of all of the fans," McAdams said. "The children of New Castle County greatly appreciate what the fans have done for them in helping them get ready for the upcoming school year. They are extremely needy and it helps them get a start on the school year."
Over the previous five years, the generosity of the fans and local area businesses has amounted to $22,558 collected in supplies and money for the students of New Castle County elementary schools. In 2003, the participating schools that received supplies included Martin Luther King, McCullough, Pleasantville and East Side Charter.
McAdams has served as the Wilmington Blue Rocks public address announcer since the inception of modern-day Blue Rocks baseball in 1993. He also has served as public address announcer for many Delaware Stadium Corporation events as well as Big Five Basketball and NCAA Tournament events.
