The Thunder will be on the road on Saturday, July 3 but they will be playing in front of the Waterfront Park crowd. The Thunder will host "PSE&G No Game Night" at Waterfront Park on July 3 followed by City of Trenton Independence Day Fireworks. The Thunder game that night in New Britain, CT will be broadcast live on the right field board and all between inning promotions and games will be played as if the game were at home. Tickets are only $1 with the proceeds going to the Grand Slam We Care Foundation's Tickets for Kids program to bring children from the city of Trenton to Waterfront Park for a Thunder game. THUNDER BASEBALL CAMP BEGINS TUESDAY
The Thunder will host a pair of summer time baseball camps at Waterfront Park this year. The camps will be held July 6, 7, 9 and August 24, 25, 26. The camps will cover all phases of the game including hitting, baserunning, fielding and throwing techniques, pitching, and more. The staff for each summer camp consists of experienced professional baseball players, coaches from the Trenton Thunder who will teach the latest skill techniques. Players will interact with camp coaches in a variety of drills and activities to reinforce the lesson. Players will also get to hone their skills in live game situation under the helpful eyes of the camp coaches. Call 609-394-3300 ext 127 to sign up!
RIFKIN, REESE, SHEPARD & ORTIZ NAMED EL ALL-STARS
The Eastern League and the Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced today that IF Aaron Rifkin, RHP David Shepard, OF Kevin Reese and RHP Javier Ortiz have been named to the Northern Division Team for the Eastern League All-Star game to be played in Bowie, MD on July 14th.
Two players from each Eastern League team were chosen through voting by fans at ballparks and Rite Aid stores in the region. The remaining players were chosen by the Eastern LeaguePresident's office. For the Thunder, Aaron Rifkin and David Shepard earned the fan votes whileKevin Reese and Javier Ortiz were chosen by the league office.
"Each of these players deserve to play with the best in the league," said Thunder General Manager Rick Brenner. "We're proud of them and wish them the best of luck." Rifkin is batting .249 this year with 10 home runs and 46 RBI. The 6'3'' 220lb first basemanwas named the Eastern League's Player of the Week for the week ending May 23rd after hitting .462 with 2 doubles during the seven-day stretch. The twenty-five year old was selected by the Yankees in the 4th round of the June 2001 draft and last year was voted the 2003 Thunder Fan Favorite.
