Albany Firebirds News Release

Albany, N.Y., June 10, 2004 – The Albany Conquest will travel to meet the Arkansas Twisters on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST at ALLTEL Arena in North Little Rock, Ark. in an arenafootball2 game that will be televised live on UPN Capital Region.

Arkansas routinely draws over 9,000 fans per game and a crowd of that size will await the Conquest on Saturday at ALLTEL Arena. Arkansas and Albany have both qualified for post-season play in the past two seasons, but both will need to get on a winning streak quickly to have a chance for a third straight bid at the ArenaCup Playoffs.

It has been a season of streaks for the Albany Conquest (3-6). To open the season, Albany lost four games in a row, than a three-game winning streak greeted the Conquest and now, two straight losses.

Arkansas (1-8), after opening their season with a 48-38 win over the San Diego Riptide at ALLTEL Arena on April 3, the Twisters have dropped eight straight games, including their most recent loss, a 36-23 loss on the road to the Tennessee Valley Vipers on June 5.

Conquest offensive specialist Tony Locke has a keen eye for the endzone. He has scored touchdowns on 21 of the 44 times that he has caught a pass this season. He has also returned three kicks for touchdowns and has scored one rushing TD. His 25 touchdowns this season is second most in arenafootball2. He is second in scoring (150 points) in af2. He is third in all-purpose yards (1,701), tenth in receiving yards (856), and sixth in kickoff return average (24.1). Locke needs 11 touchdowns to tie Corey HillsÂ’s Conquest record of 36 touchdowns in a season.

The Conquest will return home for a Friday evening date against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. on June 18 at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. in a game that will feature a full post-game concert by Blue Oyster Cult. Albany defeated Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, 52-45, on May 8, also at the Pepsi Arena.

Fans interested in buying tickets to the June 18 game can do so at the Pepsi Arena Box Office or by calling TicketMaster at (518) 476-1000. More information is available by visiting www.albanyconquest.com.
