Crush Signs Kevin McKenzie

DENVER - The Colorado Crush of the Arena Football League has added AFL veteran wide receiver-defensive back Kevin McKenzie to its roster as a free agent signee.
Terms of McKenzie's contract weren't disclosed.
McKenzie, 5-foot-11 and 193 pounds, played last season for the AFL's San Jose Sabercats. He played the 2001 AFL season for the Florida Bobcats.
McKenzie caught 17 passes for 202 yards and two touchdowns last season. He also returned 12 kicks for 316 yards and a touchdown.
"Kevin is a very explosive receiver with great quickness," Crush head coach Mike Dailey said. "He's a guy who can take a five-yard pass and turn it into a 45-yard touchdown.
"We're fortunate to get a guy from a proven program like San Jose. He will give us a big lift."
In 2001 McKenzie had 53 receptions for 14 touchdowns for the Bobcats and was named the team's Rookie of the Year. He also played for the Scottish Claymores in NFL Europe in 2002, catching 10 passes for 141 yards in seven games. He was on the 53-man roster of the Philadelphia Eagles in 1998, but was deactivated for the final four games of the season. He was on the Miami Dolphins practice squad in 1999 and played in one game for the Dolphins, catching two passes for 21 yards.
As a collegian at Washington State McKenzie caught 86 passes for 1,537 yards over two seasons, ninth on the school's all-time receptions list.
The Crush has signed 22 free agents for the 2004 season. Previously announced free agent signees were: quarterbacks Matt Lytle, Jose Davis and Jay McDonagh, fullback-linebackers Rich Young, Sununguru Rusununguko and John Peaua, two-way linemen Derrick Pickens, Hugh Hunter, Pat Downey, Kyle Moore-Brown and Don Klein, defensive specialists Tony Scott and Rashad Floyd, wide receiver-defensive backs Darcey Levy, Robert Redd, Willis Marshall, Windrell Hayes, James Rooths, Ron Rogers and Margin Hooks and kicker Anthony Brenner.

The AFL begins its second season on NBC-TV on Feb. 8. The Crush's first game on NBC-TV is scheduled for Feb. 22, against the Chicago Rush at Allstate Arena, in Rosemont, Ill.
