Fire defeat Rapids with goals from Marco Pappa and Wilman Conde

COMMERCE CITY, CO - The Chicago Fire (6-3-6, 24 pts.) defeated the Colorado Rapids (5-4-6, 21 pts.) 2-0 on the road tonight at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Fire midfielder Marco Pappa tallied the first goal for Chicago in the 30th minute, while defender Wilman Conde scored the Fire's second goal just seven minutes later. The Rapids got on the scoreboard with a goal courtesy of Jacob Peterson in the 76th minute, but that would not be enough to overcome the Fire. The win is the Fire's first on the road against the Rapids in almost a decade, last winning in Colorado on Oct. 6, 2009. With the three points, the Fire are tied with D.C. United (5-3-9, 24 pts.) for first place in the Eastern Conference Standings, one point ahead of their next opponent, the Columbus Crew (5-3-8, 23 pts.). The Fire return to action against the Crew on July 11, back in Chicago at TOYOTA PARK (7 p.m., ESPN2/Deportes).
