Trenton Thunder News Release

The Thunder had a season-high 17 hits in an 8-6 come-from-behind victory on Friday night at Hadlock Field.

Left-hander Josh Rogers, making his Double-A debut, allowed four runs on five hits in the second inning, but, otherwise turned in a fine outing to earn the victory. Other than his second inning hiccup, Rogers retired 14 of the 15 batters he faced. In total he went 5.2 innings, striking out three and allowing just one walk.

Trenton's offense broke through against Trey Ball in the fifth inning when Jake Cave doubled in Thairo Estrada and Billy Fleming to make it 4-2. After a pair of walks loaded the bases, Zack Zehner singled up the middle to make 4-3, however, Billy McKinney bounced into a double play to end the inning.

In the sixth with a runner on first and one out, Thairo Estrada reached on an infield single; chasing the Portland starter. Cave came through again with a run-scoring single and Andujar followed him with a two-run single to take a 6-4 Thunder lead against reliever Josh Smith.

Matt Wotherspoon pitched the Thunder into the ninth with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief allowing just one hit and striking out five.

The Thunder added two insurance runs in the top of the ninth on an RBI groundout from Fleming a double off the left field wall by Abiatal Avelino. Both runs were needed to ensure victory as Cale Coshow surrendered a pair of runs to Portland on a Joesph Monge single in the bottom half of the ninth. However, Coshow struck out Danny Mars to complete the team's 30th victory of the season.

17 hits in the game is a season-high for the Thunder. Zehner, Estrada and Cave each recorded three hit games in the victory. Every Thunder starter reached base in the game with Jorge Saez being the lone starter who didn't record a hit.

Your Thunder continue their series on Saturday afternoon at 1pm against the Sea Dogs. RHP Yefry Ramirez (5-0, 3.00) will start for the Thunder, RHP Kevin McAvoy (1-3, 5.06) will go for Portland. Saturday's game will air on 920 AM The Jersey beginning at 12:45pm and online at Trentonthunder.com/Broadcast.
