Game Keys - Memphis scored runs in seven of the eight innings they batted and jumped to a 6-0 lead and held on to defeat the Zephyrs 13-10 on Friday in front of 9,423 at Autozone Park. The loss is New Orleans sixth in a row and the Redbirds fifth consecutive win. The Redbirds utilized eight pitchers in the contest. Joe Mather led the Birds with 5 RBI including a three run blast in the fifth inning. Memphis led 6-0 when the Z's scored 5 runs in the fifth inning. The Redbirds added a run in the bottom of the fifth and then scored five more in bottom of the sixth. The Z's offense came alive late against the Memphis bullpen scoring a run in the eighth and four in the ninth. Kelvin Jimenez was the eighth and final pitcher for Memphis and earned the save. Matt Scherer was the winning pitcher and Brian Stokes took the defeat. The Redbird starter PJ Walters exited the game after two innings, he took a line drive off the elbow. The teams each left nine men on and grounded into three double plays each. Memphis leads the series two games to none.
Game Notes: The Z's utilized former Major Leaguer Rickey Henderson as the first base coach. Henderson is a special instructor for the Mets and is working on base running with the Zephyr players. The Z's fall and a season high seven games back of first place Oklahoma. The Z's are also a season high six games under .500, their most since the 2006 season. Coming Up: The Zephyrs continue the four game roadtrip on Saturday night in Memphis. The Z's will start RH Nelson Figueroa (3-2, 2.89) and he matches up with Memphis RH Clayton Mortensen (2-1, 3.42).
