Sidewinders on wrong end of lopsided affair

Sacramento, CA - Casey Rogowski homered, tripled and drove in four runs as the Sacramento Rivercats beat the Sidewinders 9-3 on Friday night at Raley Field. The loss is Tucson's 50th of the season and drops them 16.5 games behind Sacramento.

Brooks Conrad and Joe Gaetti also homered and Gregorio Petit and Jesus Guzman added RBI as Sacramento erased an early 2-0 deficit for their 48th win of the season.

Tim Raines, Jr. hit a two run home run to right in the top of the first inning but Sacramento came right back. Guzman lined a RBI double to right-center in the second to score Richie Robnett and Rogowski's two run homer in the third made it 3-2 Rivercats.

Matt Torra started for the Sidewinders and lasted just 4.1 innings. Torra (1-1) allowed five runs on five hits while walking three and striking out four.

Wilkin Castillo briefly tied the game on his sixth home run of the year, a line drive over the wall in right field, leading off in the fifth but again, the Rivercats rallied quickly. Petit drew a walk to open the bottom of the fifth and Conrad drilled his 16th home run of the season, his 7th against Tucson, to make it 5-3.

Brad Knox earned the win with 6.2 innings of work. Knox (6-2) allowed three runs on seven hits. He is now 3-1 against the Sidewinders this season.

Rogowski added a two run triple in the seventh against Jason Urquidez. Joe Gaetti homered and Petit had a RBI single against Connor Robertson in the eighth.

The Sidewinders and Rivercats play game three of their series on Saturday night at Raley Field. Right-hander Esmerling Vasquez (1-2, 6.20) starts for Tucson against left-hander Dan Meyer (7-5, 4.89) for Sacramento. First pitch is at 7:05. The game will air live on COOL 1450 beginning at 6:55.
