Zephyrs Fall to Iowa Cubs in 11

DES MOINES, Iowa - The New Orleans Zephyrs committed a season high five errors and allowed two unearned runs in a 2-1 defeat to the Iowa Cubs in 11 innings.

The Iowa Cubs scored a fourth inning run when Brooks Raley hit a two out groundball that went through the legs of first basemen Gaby Sanchez into right field.

The Zephyrs tied the game with a eighth inning solo home run from Nick Green. The home run extended the Zephyrs streak of hitting the long ball in 14 consecutive games.

The Cubs loaded the bases in the 11th inning and Josh Vitters hit a one hopper to the Zephyrs pitcher Gary Glover, he fielded it clean and hurried the throw and into the dirt to allow the winning run to score.

Jeff Beliveau earned the win pitching a scoreless inning. Glover suffered the loss for New Orleans.

The Iowa Cubs left 16 men on base in the game and the Z's stranded eight. The Zephyrs lead the series two games to one.

Game Notes - The Z's have hit a league leading 30 home runs in 15 games in July. The Zephyrs also made 5 errors on April 14th in Nashville. New Orleans entered the game with the third best fielding percentage in the league. The Zephyrs are 3-6 in extra innings this season.
