Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release
PENSACOLA, Fla. (Nov. 25, 2015) - A shutout by Matt Zenzola and two goals from Ryan Kesti powered the Pensacola Ice Flyers (7-3-1) to a 5-0 victory over the Louisiana IceGators (4-5-2) in Wednesday's Thanksgiving game.
With the IceGators' John Daniels in the box for holding, Corey Banfield batted in a rebound for a power play goal with 12:58 left in the first. Joey Holka and Adam Pawlick picked up the assists. The Ice Flyers scored their second man advantage marker of the period when Cole Ruwe collected a shot from Pawlick that ricocheted shot off the boards and beat Louisiana's Adam Courchaine glove side. Mike Krieg had the other assist on the goal.
With Courchaine screened by four bodies in front, Ryan Kesti fired a quick, backhanded shot and found the back of the net 11:22 into the second. Junior Harris and Stephen Buco both picked up the assists in the first game with the Ice Flyers.
In the third, Kesti came crashing down the slot and collected a rebound before firing a snapshot over Courchaine's shoulder to make it 4-0 with 11:33 left in regulation. Buco and Harris both picked up assists on that goal too. With the game already well in hand, Joe Caveney scored his sixth goal of the season with 1:45 left in the game. Nick McParland and John Clewlow picked up the helpers.
Zenzola stopped all 29 of Louisiana's shots which improved his record to 7-1-1. For his efforts, Zenzola was named the first star of the game while Kesti was second and Buco was the third star.
The Ice Flyers will be back on the road this weekend with a pair of games against the Fayetteville FireAntz at the Cumberland County Crown Coliseum in Fayetteville, N.C. Puck drop on both games is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Central. Watch parties for both games will be held at New York Nick's downtown and the 9 Mile Road Beef 'O' Brady's location.
