Yuma Scorpions News Release
The 2007 season got off to an explosive start for the Yuma Scorpions as they bombed Flyers pitching for seven runs in the first three innings en route to an eight run victory at Desert Sun Stadium.
Mark Okano provided a bright spot for the Orange County Flyers in his debut performance. He went 3-4 with a two-run homerun and a triple.
Yuma's SP Charles Merricks held the Flyers to three runs during his six innings of work.
He was provided ample run support starting in the 2nd inning. A two-out two-RBI single by Pascual Matos opened the scoring.
Yuma took control of the game behind a five-run 3rd inning. In the frame, the Scorpions batted around and pounded five extra-base hits.
DH Hector Bernal was never retired by the Flyers pitching staff. He scored three times and added an RBI triple.
Matt Saucedo pitched the final three innings for the Scorpions and recorded the save.
The loss was dealt to Reed Dickert, who lasted just 2.2 innings. He was followed by Nick Casanova, Brandon Thompson and then Antonio Evangelista.
The Flyers will look to turn things around Friday night at 7 p.m. You can listen to all the action on KWRM 1370 AM and through orangecountyflyers.com.
