Port Huron Fighting Falcons News Release

At the Junior level, one of the most important aspects of a successful hockey team is its player billeting process. The Port Huron Fighting Falcons are always in search of safe homes and supportive families to host our young men as they follow their dreams of playing collegiate and professional hockey.

What is a billet?

A billet is a person or family who provides room and board to a person away from their home. The Port Huron Fighting Falcons rely on the generosity of local families who open their homes to our 16 to 20-year-old players so that they may continue to pursue their dream of playing college and professional hockey.

What does a billet do?

Billets are asked to provide a home away from home for our players. Your billet son will join your family for the entirety of the 2013-14 Fighting Falcons' season. Billet families should provide a separate bedroom for their billet son, as well as nutritious meals each day. Billet families are not asked to provide transportation, televisions in a player's room, bed linens, or most other costs. In compliance with league rules, all billet families will be asked to submit to a criminal background check.

Do billets get paid?

Billet families are paid $400 per month per billeted player to help cover the cost of food. The Port Huron Fighting Falcons will also provide two season tickets to each billet family. In the North American Hockey League, most teams pay billets roughly $300 per month, and some only provide discounts on season tickets. For most, the most rewarding aspect of billeting is the lasting relationship built with players as they follow their dreams.

What is a typical billet family like?

The Fighting Falcons welcome billet families of all shapes and sizes. Past billet families have included families looking for a "big brother" for young children, empty nesters, young adults, grandparents, hockey veterans, and many, many other types of families.

How can I get more information?
