GREENVILLE, S.C., November 3 – David Young, a second-round selection in the 2004 NBA Draft, has been allocated to the Fayetteville Patriots of the NBA's National Basketball Development League, according to an announcement by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert.

Young, the 41st overall selection by the Seattle SuperSonics, will join former North Carolina State guard Clifford Crawford as the two players allocated to the Patriots this season. Each NBDL team is allocated two players. Up to 17 players will report to training camps in each market, and a minimum of one allocation player is guaranteed a spot on each team's final roster of 10 players.

Young played three seasons at Xavier (2000-03) before finishing his collegiate career at North Carolina Central. As a senior at North Carolina Central (2003-04), he averaged 20.5 points and 4.8 rebounds on his way to earning All-CIAA Conference and All-CIAA Tournament honors.

Named the MVP at the Black College All-Star Classic last year, Young earned his BS in Criminal Justice from Xavier in 2003 before using his final year of eligibility at North Carolina Central. After being the first NBA draft pick for North Carolina Central since 1983, Young played the summer of 2004 for Roanoke Dazzle assistant coach Chucky Brown and the Raleigh Knights of the World Basketball Association.

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.) and Asheville Altitude (N.C.).

The league offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Twenty-eight (28) players have been called up the NBA on 39 separate occasions. Nine former NBDL coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The NBDL is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
