Six Players Signed For Riverdragons Training Camp

COLUMBUS, GA—The Columbus Riverdragons have announced that five returning members from the Dragons 2003-04 squad and one participant from the 2004 open player tryouts will compete in the Dragons 2004 training camp beginning November 7, in their efforts to win roster spots for the upcoming NBDL season that opens November 20.

The five returning Riverdragons include: Derrick Zimmerman, Jeff Myers, Erron Maxey, Reed Rawlings, and Adam Harrington. Zach Marbury, the younger brother of New York Knicks point guard, Stephon Marbury, will report to Columbus after competing in the Dragons 2004 Open Player Tryouts. The Dragons training camp roster will be supplemented by ten draft picks from this Friday's 2004 NBDL Draft and the yet to be determined, second Riverdragons allocation player.

Following the NBDL Draft the Riverdragons will open training camp on Sunday, November 7. Each team must have at least two (2) first-year professional players (rookies) and at least one (1) allocation player on their final 10-man roster.

•Zimmerman, who finished his rookie season sixth in the NBDL in assists with 5.3 distributions per game, rejoins the Dragons after competing in the Houston Rockets 2004 NBA training camp. The 6-3, point guard out of Mississippi State participated this past summer with the Seattle Supersonics in the Reebok Rocky Mountain Revue, July 16-24, in Salt Lake City.

•Myers, a three-year NBDL veteran, finished as the Riverdragons second-leading scorer in 2003-04, posting 12.5 points per game. The 6-2, combo guard tied a franchise record with 33 points off the bench in a 106-92 victory over Roanoke on April 4. Myers returns to Columbus after participating in training camp with the NBA's Atlanta Hawks.

•Maxey, a 2003-04 All-NBDL Honorable Mention selection, was the Dragons third-leading scorer last season, posting 12.4 points per contest. The 6-6, swingman from Providence College made 36 starts for Columbus and led the club in total points (551) in 2003-04.

•Rawlings appeared in four games with the Riverdragons last season after being signed as a free agent on March 31. The 6-7, forward from Samford University averaged 11.5 points per game in his short stint with Columbus. Rawlings averaged 14.1 points per contest this past summer with the Dodge City Legend of the USBL.

•Harrington, a Riverdragons allocation player this season, returns to Columbus after appearing in 17 games with nine starts for the Dragons in 2003-04. The 6-5, shooting guard from Auburn averaged 11.2 points per game before suffering a season-ending ankle injury in late March.

•Marbury, a 6-2, point guard from the University of Rhode Island, earned a spot in training camp after competing in the Riverdragons 2004 Open Player Tryouts on October 23-24.

The Dragons open their 2004-05 home schedule on Saturday, November 20 at the Columbus Civic Center against the Huntsville Flight.
