Hershey Bears News Release

HERSHEY - The HERSHEY BEARS in conjunction with the American Hockey League announced that President and General Manager Doug Yingst was the 2005-06 winner of the James C. Handy Memorial Award as the AHL's top executive.

Yingst (2000, 2006) joins Jack Butterfield (1971, 1984) and Frank Mathers (1977, 1991) as the only executives to win the Hendy award twice. He also won the Ken McKenzie award in 1988, given annually by the American Hockey League to the person judged to have done he most to promote his team.

Yingst was instrumental in establishing the BEARS' new affiliation agreement with the Washington Capitals which ultimately led to the BEARS winning the 2006 Calder Cup Championship. Under his leadership the BEARS achieved the second highest regular season attendance total (308,092) in team history and the team drew nearly 75,000 fans at Giant Center during the 2006 Calder Cup Championship run, including three sell-outs during the 2006 Calder Cup Finals. For only the second time in franchise history the BEARS reached 103 points during the regular season.

Yingst currently represents the hockey club on the American Hockey League's Board of Governors and Executive Committee. He previously served as Chairman of the AHL's Competition and Marketing Committees. Yingst has served as Hershey's General manager since 1996-97 when they won the Calder cup in his first year as GM. Yingst previously serves as Chairman of the Hershey Junior Bears, is an active member of USA Hockey, and served as a USA Hockey Coaching Director.
