Hartford Yard Goats News Release

Richmond, VA - The Hartford Yard Goats shutout the Richmond Flying Squirrels by the score of 3-0 on Sunday afternoon at The Diamond in Richmond, Virginia. Yard Goats starting left-hander Ty Culbreth fired five scoreless innings and catcher Brian Serven smashed a three-run home run as the Yard Goats won their first game of the season and avoided a three-game sweep. Hartford's bullpen followed Culbreth's fine start and four relievers hurled four scoreless innings to complete the shutout win. The win came against former Major League pitcher Brandon Beachy who pitched for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yard Goats took a 3-0 lead in the second inning on Brian Serven's home run to left field off Richmond starter Brandon Beachy. Tyler Nevin and Vince Fernandez started the inning with consecutive walks and Serven followed with the Yard Goats first homer of the season, lifting the Rockies affiliate to an early lead. The three-run blast sailed over the left field fence off the former Braves and Dodgers right-hander Beachy who has had two Tommy John surgeries.

Hartford starter Ty Culbreth pitched well in his Double-A debut and tossed five shutout innings, while allowing three hits with a walk and three strikeouts. The bullpen followed with four scoreless innings from Philip Diehl, Rayan Gonzalez, Logan Cozart and Ben Bowden. Hartford's relief pitching permitted only three hits and registered four strikeouts.

The Yard Goats continue their first road trip of the season and open a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators at FNB Field on Monday night at 6:30. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and 100.9 FM and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
