Hartford Yard Goats News Release
Bowie, MD- The Hartford Yard Goats defeated the Bowie Baysox by the score of 6-4 on a wet Saturday night at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. Hartford pitching retired 14 of the first 15 batters and held the Baysox without a hit until two outs in the fifth inning. Peter Lambert started for the Yard Goats and worked the first three innings, allowing just one baserunner. The Yard Goats scored a run in the first inning and added three more in the third inning before the game was delayed due to rain. A storm came through Bowie and delayed the game for two hours and 12 minutes before it resumed at 9:45 PM. Jonathan Daza had three hits, including two doubles and a solo home run and drove in four runs in the win. The Yard Goats became the third team in the Eastern League to win 20 games, which is impressive considering the 0-6 start.
The Yard Goats scored the first run of the game in the first inning off Bowie starter and former Baltimore Orioles lefty Jayson Aquino. Garrett Hampson led off the game with a double. He moved to second on Dom Nunez' sacrifice bunt. Yonathan Daza followed with an RBI double to left field, scoring Hampson and giving the Yard Goats a 1-0 lead.
Hartford added three more runs in the third inning. Again, Garret Hampson started the rally for the Yard Goats. He led off the inning with an infield single and stole second and third base. Dom Nunez walked putting runners at the corners with nobody out. Yonathan Daza followed with a two-run double, scoring Hampson and Nunez to give Hartford a 3-0 lead. Brendan Rodgers then cracked a double over the right fielders head, scoring Daza to make it 4-0 Yard Goats.
Bowie scored a run in the seventh inning on a solo home run by Audry Perez, making it a 4-1 game. However, the Yard Goats scored twice in the top of the eighth inning to make it 6-1. Yonathan Daza homered and Sam Hilliard had an RBI single in the frame. Audry Perez smashed a 3-run homer in the ninth inning for the Baysox to make it a 6-4 game.
The Yard Goats wrap up their four game weekend series on Sunday afternoon at 1:35 pm at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland. RHP Parker French will start for the Yard Goats while RHP Lucas Long pitches for the Baysox. The game will be broadcast on AM 1410 WPOP and streamed on newsradio.1410.com and MiLB.com.
