Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release

OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz wide receiver Al Hunt recently became arenafootball2's all-time career leading scorer (non-kicking) when he caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from QB Robert Kent last weekend against the defending af2 ArenaCup Champion Tennessee Valley Vipers. The TD grab broke a first place tie with Central Valley's George Williams and gave Hunt the lead all to himself with 1,174 points. It also put Hunt in a first place tie with Williams as the league's all-time career touchdown leader with 193 TDs. The game was Hunt's 100th career game as a player in af2.

"This achievement is well deserved," said Yard Dawgz Head Coach Sparky McEwen. "He's had an outstanding career and has always been one of the most consistent performers on the field week in and week out."

The Gainesville, FL native is also second all-time in af2 in career receiving yards (7,383) and second all-time in career receiving TDs (166), and is third all-time in the league in career receptions (527). Hunt currently leads all Yard Dawg receivers this season in receptions (41), receiving yards (638), touchdowns (16), and receiving yards per game (91.1). Hunt's best game this season came against the Rio Grande Valley Dorados, when he caught 8 passes for 159 yards and 5 TDs. He also had a rushing TD and returned five kickoffs for 97 yards.

"Al has been a tremendous player for our franchise over the past six seasons," said General Manager Christie Cook. "He will definitely be remembered as one of the greatest players to ever wear a Yard Dawg uniform."

The 31-year old Hunt is in his seventh season in the af2, beginning his career with the Tulsa Talons in 2003 before joining the Yard Dawgz in their inaugural 2004 season. Hunt has been with the Dawgz ever since and hold franchise records with the most receptions (462), receiving yards (6,749), receiving TDs (150), and tackles (202.5). Hunt was named to the 2008 All-Ironman Team as well as three Second Team All-af2 Conference teams (2003, 2005-2008) and one First Team All-af2 Conference team in 2004. Hunt played collegiately for the Northwestern Oklahoma State Rangers as a quarterback and punter. He was a two time All-American in both positions and a member of the NWOSU National Championship team in 1999.

Despite all his achievements, Hunt was not voted to the leagues All-Time Top Ten Wide Receiver list in a preseason poll voted on by media members from around the league. He was voted #4 to the All-Time Top Ten Ironman list. The polls were in honor of arenafootball2's 10th anniversary season.

The Yard Dawgz square off against Central Division archrival Tulsa Talons on Saturday, May 30th at the Cox Convention Center. Yard Dawgz Flex Packs are now on sale starting at just $50! Yard Dawgz single game tickets are on sale, starting at only $10! The Yard Dawgz Block Party begins every home game at 5:00 PM on Reno. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
