Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (4-0) recently made a special appearance at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Wide receivers Agim Shabaj and Carlton Brewster were joined by members of the Yard Dawgz Dance Team and three time af2 Mascot of the Year Deizel Dawg as they encouraged laughter and provoked history lessons from the numerous veterans they met with during their visit.
"It was an incredible experience to meet so many influential people who have done such a great service for our country," said Agim Shabaj. "I really enjoyed the time I was able to spend visiting with them."
The visit came during Paralyzed Veterans of America Awareness Week, April 12-18. In its 63rd year, PVA Awareness Week, or PAW Week, celebrates its accomplishments and successes as well as raises awareness to PVA's mission and to the struggles of our paralyzed veterans and disabled community. During the week, PVA and its 34 chapters, including the local Mid-America Chapter and National Service Office in Oklahoma City VAMC, organize events around the country and our community to increase awareness about their work.
"The visits every year by the Yard Dawgz always bring a much needed relief from the everyday stress of being sick," said Richard Maxey, MHA, Chief of Voluntary Services. "It's amazing to see the positive reactions a visit from the Yard Dawgz players, dancers and Deizel get from the patients and staff. We are truly grateful for their wonderful support of our nation's heroes."
"Our hospital combines exceptional staff with state-of-the-art technology to provide outstanding health care to Oklahoma's Veterans," said David Wood, MHA, FACHE, Medical Center Director. "We are continually expanding services and adding new programs to care for over 50,000 of Oklahoma's Veterans."
The Yard Dawgz square off against the Rio Grand Valley Dorados this Friday, May 1st at the Cox Convention Center. Yard Dawgz single game tickets are on sale, starting at only $10! The Yard Dawgz Block Party will begin at 5:00 PM on Reno and kickoff is scheduled for 7:35 PM. For additional information, please call (405) 228-3294 or visit www.okcyarddawgz.com.
